In this article We will be exploring 3 interesting places you should visit in lagos Nigeria.
1. THE LEKKI CONSERVATION CENTER(LCC):
Founded in 1990 by the Nigeria Conservation Foundation(NCF) & Located at Km 19 on the Lekki-Epe Expressway Lekki conservation center preserves a large part of the region’s biodiverse coastal ecosystem and educates visitors on the importance of coexisting with nature.
The reserve is home to alot of wildlifes, including monkeys, tortoises, rare birds and so on.
It is the only vibrant protected area in Lagos State and one of the very few vibrant tourist destinations of value in Lagos and has been recognized as one of the notable tourist Sites of special interest and exceptional relevance by the Lagos State Government under the LISTED SITES for the preservation, protection and restoration of historical properties and cultural heritage in Lagos State.
Some special sites around The Lekki conservation center includes the canopy walkway which is one of the most visited sites among other sites in the Lekki Conservation Centre, the walkway is 401-metres long and it was launched in 2015 and it is known to be the longest canopy walkway in the whole of Africa.
The Lekki Conservation Center is also a great place to visit and spend quality time with family and loved ones with lots of activities to bond over like floor games (Ludo, Snakes and Ladders, Draught, Chess and Street Tennis), jungle gym facilities (Zip lines, monkey bars, etc). You can also visit the Koi & Tilapia ponds, Beach Volley-ball courts & Spectators’ pavilion, Bird hides, Rotunda, Swamp look-out Station all in the LCC.
Though i have never visited this conservation center before because have been hooked up with work, script supervisor (continuity) Film stuff and above all no money on ground but soonest i will visit there Along side with my Girlfriend 😜.
2. TARKWA BAY BEACH:
Tarwa bay beach is an artificial sheltered beach located near the Lagos harbour in Nigeria,Due to its island status, it is only accessible by boat or water axis, also there are several places in Lagos Island where you can board a ferry or high-speed boat to the bay And some of this places include (CMS)Marina, Mekwe Jetty and Tarzan Marine ( Victoria Island).
From Marina (CMS): You can board a speedboat at N1500 per person. The ride should last for 20 minutes.
From Mekwe Jetty near Bonny Camp on Lagos Island: You can board a speedboat. The journey should take 15 minutes.
From Tarzan Marine Services beside Lagos Oriental Hotel: You can board a speedboat for the entire journey (to and fro). The cost is N2000. The ride should take 25 minutes.
But the day i went there i went through Marina (CMS), so it was like a 30 minute boat ride from marina(CMS) to tarkwa bay, it was as if had spent 3 hours,my front, back ,left & right water was everywhere ,in my mind i was just praying for the trip to end because it was as if it wasn't going to end but it was fun though.
However, the beach is popular with swimmers and water-sports enthusiasts, also it has one of the best welcoming resident community.
Tarkwa Bay is a good choice if you are trying to get out of the city, but don't want to go too far.
3. THE BADAGRY HERITAGE MUSEUM:
The Badagry Heritage Museum is also known as the Black Heritage Museum Badagry and it is one of the oldest tourist sites in Lagos and Nigeria at large . It is located along the Badary Marina and it was the first Colonial administrative office in Nigeria catering for day to day administrative purpose of the British Government in Nigeria.
However,The museum was built in 1863 as the first District office of the British colonial government, it also played a major part during the colonial era.
The Museum is divided into eight different sections, showcasing different artifacts within the museum which includes The introductory Gallery, the Capture, the transportation, the equipment, The resistance and punishment section,The Industry,The Integration and the Abolition happens to be last section of all the sections,it gives more information about the people and the heroes who fought for the abolition of the slave trade.
It also gives more information about the end of slavery and the heroic story of a woman who saved over 300 people from their slavery.
Badagry heritage museum holds hundreds of slave and historical relics covering the over 300 years of slavery in Nigeria also it serve as a remembrance of the slave trade era and a place where we can look back to see how far we have gone as a people, also it features artefacts, drawings, paintings and sculptures from the slave trade era.
The last time i visited the heritage museum was in 2013 and it was one of the most interesting places have ever been to, though it was some how emotional seeing what our ancestors passed through and it also stands as one of the most unforgettable experience of my life.
