On September 22,2020 , The micro-blogging giant 'Twitter' witness a hell of jubilations over the dedication of a fintech application: Abeg App
Funny enough the word "Abeg" in Nigeria is know to be a pidgin English word usually used to plead or beg for something lolz, Abeg is a neighbourly, non-aggressive way to preface requests to strangers, and friends and it is commonly used in Nigeria by all.
Abeg app was created by a young, smart and talented tech guru Dare Adekoya and his team of six which initial thoughts were to create a fun community around requesting and sending money in Africa, just like the popular cash app that we all know.
Unlike other traditional bank apps Abeg Uses tags instead of traditional bank accounts, Abeg app on it own has a striking resemblance to the US-based mobile payment service, Cash App.
Abeg is a fintech podium having a financial advantage on user’s tags to request and send money.
Similarly, users can send money to people on their contact list using their phone numbers or payment links after they fund their digital wallets.
Now the question on everyone's mind is that how the hell did Dare Adekoya and his friends or should i say co founder able to secure a spot as the lead sponsor of the Big brother Nigeria season 6 'shine ya eyes' Edition . Well Abeg App is just less than 1 year old on the block and was recently reported to have clinched the leading spot to be the Headline Sponsor of this year’s Edition of the BBNaija Season 6 Reality TV show in Nigeria.
Below are the price tags for sponsors and advertiser who wish to advertise their products and services on the show.:
After i checked the price tags, the immediate words that came to my Head and mind combined was "Where una dey see this money' 😒
So after some little research and digging i find out that the reason the prices were up was because of the sheer reach and engagement the show receives year over year, the organizers have been able to slap a premium price for precious advert slots that tons of advertisers bid for. As at last year the show reported an average figure of over 400 million viewers on TV and Digital for it’s Season 5 Edition – a 74% increase from the previous year,so tell me why the price wouldn't be hiked since the show has been a hit back to back.
Reports claim that for the 2020 edition which was tagged Lockdown, Betway paid a ridiculous amount of 1 billion Naira to come out lead Sponsor, OMG 1 billion naira 😩,but wait oo how una dey get this money self 😒.
This year's the figure as per the image above the price tag was 250 million Naira lesser compared to last year that is 750 million, Maybe because they considered how hard things are in the country 😂😂
I guess the question on everyone’s mind is how the heck did a less than 1 year old Fintech Startup pay almost a Billion Naira to Sponsor BBNaija Season 6 where there is no money on ground 😩?
Well it might be Revenue generated from the app and maybe thier personal earnings or maybe Bank loan, but which bank in Nigeria will handover 750 million naira cash to anybody😂 ,We know the stories of how hard it is to acquire a bank loan, but on a more serious note come to think of it, it might be an Abeg app Seed Funding ,maybe they raised several millions of dollars in seed funding without telling a soul, who knows or maybe after their lunch last year September on twitter, there were approached by several Venture Capitalists or big Investors in the months following their launch.
After all this the urge to venture into the tech world is really hungering me, na to start to dey learn computer language and coding ati app development, including making softwares too😒😒
Tell me what you feel about this article , i spent alot of hours writing this so just comment and tell me what where you think abeg got there money from😂 thanks for reading.
